The Bark River Bravo 1.2 is designed for (para)military use, specifically for the United States Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became evident that this knife could do so much more. Today the Bravo 1 is a popular knife amongst both bushcrafters and hunters. It is solidly constructed with enough blade thickness for the more demanding tasks. Perfect for wood work, gutting game and many other outdoor tasks. This is the longer brother of the original Bravo 1. The blade of the 1.2 is slightly longer and about the same size as the Bravo 1.25. The Bravo 1.2 is designed to answer to the need of the German market where knife enthusiasts can only carry a fixed knife with a blade length of up to 12 cm. The Bravo 1.2 has a blade length of exactly 11.9 cm. Long enough, and can legally be carried in public in Germany (if the circumstances allow you to). The blade length is the only difference with the Bravo 1, the handle is exactly the same.
On the spine of the blade you will find the so-called ramp. This is a small protrusion with serrations on one side. Intuitively it could feel as if the ramp is located a little too far at the back to naturally place your thumb. You should, however, place your thumb on the front of the ramp. As a result it is easier to apply more pressure during more precise jobs. The serrated edge of the ramp is shaped as such to make creating sparks a lot easier when you use a firesteel.
The blade is made from CPM 3V steel. A type of tool steel known for its exceptional strength. It won’t break easily and it retains it sharpness well. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. So clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The blade has a convex grind and you can maintain it by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).
The handle is made from canvas micarta. A strong and light-weight material, made from linen and synthetic resin. Feels very comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold circumstances.
The Bark River Bravo 1.2 comes with a leather belt sheath (max. belt width of 8.0 cm). In addition, the sheath has a loop that can fit a firesteel (max. diameter of approximately 7.0 mm).
Bark River makes most of its knives by hand. As a result each knife is unique. Especially when you are working with natural materials a knife can differ from its pictures. The knife you receive can, therefore, be slightly different from the product photographs. The model and the type of material, however, will remain the same.
